Senior Technologist

Federal Trade Commission

I am currently serving as a Senior Technologist at the Federal Trade Commission’s Office of Technology, where I leverage my expertise on privacy, automated systems, and applied machine learning to further the agency’s mission to protect consumers and promote fair competition. Beyond this role, I remain active in the research community by serving on program committees for venues such as PETS and IEEE S&P, and by co-organizing workshops including the Policy-Relevant Privacy Research (PR2) Workshop.

Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within Roya Ensafi’s Censored Planet Lab in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) School at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I collaborated on projects examining the impact of geoblocking on citizens in sanctioned states, and on developing machine learning and outlier detection methods to identify censorship events and content.

I received my PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at UC Irvine, where I was advised by Athina Markopoulou and was part of the ProperData NSF Frontier project. My doctoral research focused on privacy and networking in two areas: improving transparency into data collection on platforms such as the web, smart TVs, and Oculus VR; and designing frameworks and methodologies to address key challenges in deploying privacy-enhancing technologies that block advertising and tracking on the web.

A full list of publications and experience is available in my CV.
